Trainers of Tomorrow: Enhancing Your Online Instruction Skills

Description:
Learning and teaching online are trends that are here to stay. In 2020, the ATTC Network provides numerous opportunities for online learning (webinars, learning communities, and self-paced courses) to its stakeholders. As such, ATTC staff and trainers will need both the knowledge and skills to effectively train online. The trainers will share their expertise and experience for effective online instruction. The Trainers of Tomorrow course is similar to a traditional Training of Trainers event but will be taught via online instruction sessions. Specifically, the course will focus on: a blend of adult learning theories; performance feedback skills specific to online learning; online engagement and management practices; and use of videoconferencing platform technology. Participants will learn to translate/transport their in-person instructional methods/skills into virtual training environments. This is NOT a course about how to conduct a webinar. The Trainers of Tomorrow will kick-off with a virtual introductory session followed by six online weekly sessions. As required in all training of trainer events, the final weeks will require each participant to practice co-leading a virtual learning event using a videoconferencing platform. Throughout the instructional process, participants and instructors will offer tailored and affirming feedback that illuminates strengths as well as opportunities for growth and refinement of virtual instruction and facilitation skills.
Learning Objectives:
Provide adult learners with a respectful, relevant, and responsive in-person and virtual learning environment where structured guidance is offered to increase quality and effectiveness of online instructional skills. At the end of the hybrid learning event, participants will be able to: 1) identify four of ten essential online instruction skills; 2) demonstrate the ability to reflect on their current instructional skills and how new online instructional information may enhance/impact their skills; 3) model instructional skills that are essential to promoting effective online learning; 4) demonstrate skills in giving and receiving feedback and in building participant engagement in an online venue; and 5) demonstrate competency with technologies related to videoconferencing platforms.

Seasoned ATTC trainers interested in the opportunity to learn new skills as a virtual trainer.
